Ideas for Early Intervention Providers Supporting Young Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and Their Families (Rev. March 31, 2020)
This resource provides a list of suggested websites and summary information that may be helpful to MN Regional EHDI Teams and early intervention providers as educators work to support young children with hearing loss and their families through distance technology. This beginning list includes resource sites specific to supporting young children who are deaf or hard of hearing, a few additional sites for supporting all young children and families, and a few children’s online activity sites. It is not an exhaustive list of resources.
- MN CoE Distance Learning Resources
This site contains excellent resources compiled by MN Centers of Excellence Professional Development Facilitators (PDFs) to provide quality, vetted information to support distance learning planning for ECSE and EC programs in MN and resources for coaching families on ways to support children through routines and everyday experiences. This site includes multiple links to other information sources, Resources for Administrators and Program Staff, and Resources for Supporting Families and Caregivers. - Advanced Bionics, Tools for Toddlers

This site provides resources for supporting children’s development of listening and spoken language; Resources can be used with many children, not just those with cochlear implants. Includes:- Sound Foundation for Babies

Hands & Voices, MN Hands & Voices
- MN Hands & Voices Support & Resources During COVID-19
- I would encourage families and providers to “follow” MN Hands& Voices on Facebook. Staff are providing many resource links and activity suggestions for families through social media.

- Hearing First
Hearing First provides information resources for families and professionals for supporting young children’s listening and spoken language development, social-emotional development, and early literacy. Also offered are online communities for families and for professionals, as well as free online professional development courses. The following resources may be especially helpful for providers to review and share at this time as appropriate to the individual family. Professionals who wish to download free information resources from the website or take courses will need to create a log-in for access.- Did You Know video series for families Seven videos demonstrating how to use everyday activities to support development of listening and spoken language for young children.
- Read Together, Learn Together
- Time for Telepractice: In response to current professional needs, Hearing First presented a webinar on 3/26/2020, Time for Telepractice. A framework for virtual home visits and coaching parents was provided, with several planning resources and home visit recording materials also shared. Hearing First has shared the recording and materials with those who participated in the webinar. Resource referenced in the presentation can be downloaded from the Hearing First site with log-in:
